Governing Magazine Features Local Dedicated Children's Funds
Governing Magazine released an article about the increased efforts around the country to establish voter-approved local dedicated funds for children's services. These funds - in which voters decide to tax themselves to ensure kids have expanded or improved services - are becoming increasingly common.
The article describes these efforts, providing background on the social and policy landscape in which these funds are emerging. The article quotes Elizabeth Gaines, senior fellow at the Forum for Youth Investment, who described local, dedicated children's funds as "a budding movement." The Governing article goes on to describe the Forum's process of assembling a database of every city and county with a voter-approved children's tax fund. If you have information on a local voter approved children's fund that is not on our map please share with Elizabeth@forumfyi.org.
