Current W.T. Grant Distinguished Fellows Convene at the Forum

On September 11-12, the Forum convened the current cohort of William T. Grant Distinguished Fellows to share experiences and reflections on their work across research, policy and practice. The goal of the Distinguished Fellows Program is to increase the supply of, demand for and use of high-quality research in the service of improved youth outcomes and well-being.

NCSL Highlights Youth at Annual Meeting

On July 24 at the New Orleans Convention Center, the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) held a session for 150 legislators entitled ‘Investing in Our Future: The Status of America’s Youth’. Panelists included Elizabeth Gaines of the Forum, Senator Appel of Iowa, Representative Roberts of Colorado and Representative Walker of Connecticut.

Youth Councils Team Up for the First Time

On Monday, July 14, the Forum convened the Youth Councils Learning Group in New Orleans, LA, for a pre-conference to the Workforce Innovations conference. This convening marked the first time that the Learning Group met face-to-face where they attended discussions and workshops facilitated by their peers from across the country.

Ready by 21® as Part of a Shared Youth Vision

On July 15, Karen Pittman, facilitated an interactive presentation on Ready by 21® at the Shared Youth Vision Pre-Conference. This pre-conference session preceded the Workforce Innovations that took place throughout the week in New Orleans.

Forum Works with State Teams Across the Country to Improve Youth Policy

The Forum, along with the National Conference of State Legislatures and the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, recently completed the Fourth Annual Youth Policy Institute.  The Institutes bring together state policymakers and are designed to help state governments obtain better outcomes from their youth policies and programs.

Ready by 21 Presentation at United for Children Event

On Thursday, May 28th, Karen Pittman spoke to an audience of 200 community and business leaders at the United for Children event in Boston. Karen presented the Ready by 21 framework and spoke of the importance of using a big picture approach to align resources for children and youth, a message that echoed Mayor Memnino’s welcome remarks that called for integration.

Importance of Community/School Partnerships Keynote at AASA

Merita Irby gave a presentation at the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) State Leadership Conference on May 2, 2008, in San Francisco, CA. The speech discussed the importance on the role of community/school partnerships and focused on a new way of doing business outlined in the “Leadership for Change” report from the National Superintendent of the Year Forum, 2007.

Ready by 21 Quality Counts New York Kick-Off

On April 1 and 2, Karen Finn, Senior Fellow at the Forum, joined the New York Office of Children and Family Services and the Onandaga, Rockland and Orange counties’ Youth Bureaus to kick off the Ready by 21 Quality Counts Initiative.

Forum Testifies For Tennessee Children and Youth Resource Mapping Bill

As a part of the Ready by 21 national partnership agreement between the Forum and the National Conference of State Legislatures, the Forum agrees to support state legislators as they work to implement a Ready by 21 approach in their states.

Forum Charts Path for Youth Services in New Orleans
