Dear Forum Flash Reader, The month of March was a busy one for us here at the Forum as we finished up several exciting new papers for the field. In the last Forum Flash, we shared two new reports on tools to measure and build program quality. In this issue, we include new executive summaries for those two reports. We are also excited to release a new report which was produced as part of our partnership with Corporate Voices for Working Families. This report focuses on the important role business plays in preparing young people for work. Below, you will also find information about the Online Communications and Advocacy Summit, sponsored by the Youth Policy Action Center (YPAC). From the sidebar, you can learn more about YPAC, our April Featured Partner of the Month, and Georgetown Divide/Black Oak Mine, our Featured Place of the Month. And be sure and save the date for the upcoming conference call on how to better serve older youth with mental health needs. |
The Forum and Corporate Voices for Working Families partnered to write this report which outlines the core elements of successful business investment in youth programs. The report highlights some of the most innovative strategies being used by companies to prepare young people for the challenges of the global marketplace. Last week, business leaders profiled in the report participated in a briefing on Capitol Hill to inform policy makers of the shared responsibility needed among parents, businesses, schools and government to prepare young people for work. Two New Executive Summaries on Forum Program Quality Guides
- Measuring Program Quality compares the purpose, history, structure, methodology, content and technical properties of nine different program observation tools. For a quick look at what the guide can offer, read the new executive summary. If you have more time, we encourage you to read the full report.
- Building Quality Improvement Systems takes a close look at efforts underway in three networks seeking and developing strategies to help assess and improve performance. The report also provides a preliminary framework for thinking about key questions when planning any kind of program quality improvement work in the youth-serving sector. We are releasing a new executive summary for this report, and bring you the full report.
Sincerely,
Karen Pittman
