Gina McGovern
Gina professes true “love” for Excel spreadsheets. That serves her well as she provides coaching and consulting services to the Weikart Center’s clients, serves as a coach for the Technical Assistance and Coaching Support Systems initiative, and helps to support and enhance all aspects of the center’s program improvement initiatives.
Gina joined the center in 2009 after teaching middle school math in Michigan and in Washington, D.C. During her tenure at Paul Public Charter School in Washington, she served as a mentor teacher, where she observed and coached math teachers, and helped them analyze data to make data-based instructional decisions. Gina says this blended her love for Excel with her desire to improve the experience of students learning and teachers teaching, and strengthened her belief that in order to change the way kids learn, we must change the way teachers teach – a belief that underscores her work at the Weikart Center.
She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Mary Washington College, and earned a Masters of Education degree in Educational Policy from the University of Pennsylvania. Gina was honored as a Fellow for the Advancement of Mathematics Education, and earned a Masters of Professional Studies in Middle School Mathematics through the George Washington University.
