In December of 2007, the Forum and the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) co-hosted a three-day forum for state superintendents to discuss collaboration on extended learning opportunities, among other topics. The growing, dynamic City of Sacramento (pop. 450,000), seeks a collaborative, experienced professional to serve as Director of the Office of Youth Development. Sacramento, the capital of California, has created the new Office of Youth Development to support Sacramento becoming a youth-friendly City by providing an infrastructure of support and resources to ensure youth are successful.
Representatives from 11 states attended the Roundtable in April of 2007 in Des Moines, Iowa to share their experiences, ideas and challenges. Several special guests, including the Governor of Iowa, Chet Culver, the First Lady of Iowa, Mari Culver and Patricia Kempthorne, the Former First Lady of Idaho, joined the event as well.
