With various people and organizations playing unique roles in your community – focusing on particular issues, populations and geographic areas – someone needs to keep an eye on the big picture, connect the work of those groups and make sure there are no gaps. That’s why every successful Ready by 21 state or community has an overarching leadership council.
Those who promote and carry out positive youth development are sometimes asked to explain what it is. Forum CEO Karen Pittman took on that task in a speech in Miami this month at the bi-annual Leadership Institute for Reclaiming Futures, a national initiative that helps young people who are in trouble with drugs, alcohol, and crime.

The Ready by 21 Policy Coalition held its first Capitol Hill briefing, organized by Corporate Voices for Working Families in partnership with the Forum. Attendees included nearly 100 congressional staffers, federal executive branch leaders and national child and youth advocates.
