Children’s cabinets are these key pieces of community infrastructure.

Join us as we hear from one of the oldest children’s cabinets, Minneapolis, MN, and one of the newest children’s cabinets, Chattanooga, TN, and how they have addressed COVID-19, racial equity, and more.

Reunite, Renew, and Thrive: Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Roadmap for Reopening Schools

As educators prepare to welcome students and adults back to school, they face the layered impact of school closures, the COVID-19 pandemic, and racial inequities exacerbated by the pandemic and amplified by the nationwide mobilization for racial justice. To aid in this transition, the Forum collaborated with CASEL and more than 40 leading organizations to illuminate a way forward through Reunite, Renew, and Thrive: Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Roadmap for Reopening Schools. The SEL Roadmap will provide key recommendations for reopening schools with a particular focus on equity and SEL.

Karen Pittman, the President and CEO of the Forum, stated, “As we sit down and really try to figure out what is going to be a long haul of reopening slowly…we’re going to need such a different approach to the traditional ‘show up and sit in your seat.’ We need all partners at the table together.”

How Learning Happens Now

Free Webinar from America’s Promise Alliance
Thursday, July 16, 2020
11:30 AM – 12:45 PM EDT

Schools and communities are grappling with how to best to support student learning and development in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. At the same time, reports like America’s Promise’s recent All of Who I Am lift up the voices of young people who emphasize that supporting their learning means supporting all the dimensions of their lives. But what does this look like in the current context, when many young people have indicated that the pandemic and the transition to virtual learning have left them feeling disconnected, concerned about their physical and mental health, and uncertain about their educational futures?

This webinar will feature three schools utilizing a whole child approach. School leaders will discuss some of the innovative ways they have continued to support young people’s social, emotional, and cognitive development in the context of COVID-19. Young people will share their experiences of learning from home and will discuss some essential components of their learning, regardless of where it happens. Together, they’ll reflect on what it takes to support strong relationships, student voice and choice, and meaningful learning in virtual or hybrid environments.
