Karen Pittman Joins California After School Network’s 2020 Expanded Learning Summit

Karen Pittman was honored to join the California Department of Education’s Expanded Learning Division and the California AfterSchool Network’s (CAN) 2020 Virtual Expanded Learning Summit. She joined the opening plenary that featured a welcome and introduction with CAN Program Director, Tiffany Gipson and a Town Hall with CDE-EXLD Director, Michael Funk.

In addition, Karen joined the closing plenary on a keynote panel, featuring reflection and closing remarks. The keynote panel of representatives from the field discussed their personal and professional experience during the pandemic and reopening of schools in California. Karen moderated the panel including Cielo Chavarria, Zaid Fattah, Johnielynn Moffett, and Chris Meza with a very special guest discussion with State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tony Thurmond.

The Virtual Expanded Learning Summit welcomed After School Education and Safety (ASES) and 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) program grantee staff, stakeholders, partners, and K-12 educators, administrators and leaders to attend the 2020 Virtual Expanded Learning Summit for an informative opportunity to attend an uplifting day dedicated to the theme, Together We Rise: United for California’s Recovery and the Reopening of Schools.
