National Organizations, Networks and Initiatives

·       American Youth Policy Forum brings together policymakers, practitioners, and researchers to frame issues, inform policy, and create conversations about improving education and young people’s lives.

·       Brandeis University Center for Youth and Communities  was established at the Heller School in 1983, the Center for Youth and Communities works to improve the quality of education, workforce development, and community systems in order to prepare young people for college, work, and life.  By combining scholarly research and practical experience with an emphasis on young people whose supports and opportunities have been few.

·       The Center for the Study of Race and Equity in Education unites scholars from Penn GSE and other academic disciplines across the University who do research on race, racism, campus climates, and topics pertaining to equity in education. Principally, the Center aims to publish cutting-edge implications for education policy and practice.

·       Corporation for a Skilled Workforce is a national nonprofit that partners with government, business, and community leaders to support the creation of good jobs and the highly skilled workers to fill them. We help communities innovate so that they can compete. We help businesses cultivate talent so that they can grow. And we help people learn so that they can find good jobs—or create their own.

·       Council for Opportunity in Education is a nonprofit organization, established in 1981, dedicated to furthering the expansion of college opportunities for low-income, first-generation students, veterans and students with disabilities in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Palau, Guam, and Puerto Rico. Its membership includes more than 1,000 colleges and agencies. Through its numerous membership services, the Council works in conjunction with colleges, universities, and agencies that host TRIO programs to specifically help low-income students enter college and graduate.

·       Education Commission of the States is the trusted source for comprehensive knowledge and unbiased resources on education policy issues ranging from early learning through postsecondary education.

·       Gateway to College National Network supports communities in building sustainable pathways for disconnected youth (former high school dropouts) to a high school diploma and a meaningful college credential.

·       The Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce is an independent, nonprofit research and policy institute affiliated with the Georgetown McCourt School of Public Policy that studies the link between education, career qualifications, and workforce demands.

·       The Institute for Higher Education Policy (IHEP) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization committed to promoting access to and success in higher education for all students. IHEP develops innovative policy- and practice-oriented research to guide policymakers and education leaders, who develop high-impact policies that will address our nation’s most pressing education challenges.

·       Jobs for the Future is a national nonprofit that works to ensure educational and economic opportunity for all. JFF develops innovative career pathways, educational resources, and public policies that increase college readiness and career success, and build a more highly skilled workforce.

·       Kresge Foundation education program focuses on expanding postsecondary access and success in cities for low-income, first generation and under-represented students, especially African Americans, Latinos, Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, Native Americans and veterans living in the United States.

·       Lumina Foundation is an independent, private foundation committed to increasing the proportion of Americans with degrees, certificates and other high-quality credentials to 60 percent by 2025. Lumina’s outcomes-based approach focuses on helping to design and build an equitable, accessible, responsive and accountable higher education system while fostering a national sense of urgency for action to achieve Goal 2025.

·       The Starbucks Foundation is a charitable organization that receives funding from Starbucks Corporation and private donations. The Starbucks Foundation believes in providing young people, ages 15 to 24 years old, with pathways to opportunity by investing in programs that equip young people with the skills required for the changing global economy.

·       The Students at the Center Hub is a resource for educators, families, students and communities wanting to learn more about research, best practices, supportive policies, and how to talk about student-centered approaches to learning. The Students at the Center Hub is managed by Jobs for the Future and generously funded by the Nellie Mae Education Foundation.

·       YouthBuild programs in the United States and across the globe, work with low-income young people who learn construction skills through building affordable housing for homeless and low-income people in their neighborhoods and other community assets such as schools, playgrounds, and community centers. YouthBuild programs provide pathways to unleash the positive energy of low-income young people to rebuild their communities and their lives, breaking the cycle of poverty with a commitment to work, education, family, and community.
